Although Hoi An is pretty and safe and one of the nicest cities in Vietnam. However, you can take some precautions for your travel:

As you know, the official currency of Vietnam is Vietnamese Dong with many zeros on it. So, try to be careful when you purchase something from some vendors and strangers. Especially, you must check money carefully in the night time as you might lose control or drunk then will not recognize the right paper notes of Vietnamese currency.

Try not to interact with local strangers

In fact, Vietnamese people are very friendly. But, like elsewhere in the world, we have different kinds of people. When coming to Hoi An center, you will please be careful with some strangers or outsiders who try to ask you some questions and then show you some bad stores in town or in the market where they can get a big commission from the shops. These guys usually stand in crowded places or cross roads where they find easily to get closer to you or some will drive scooters around the town and try to cheat you with poor quality of the goods that you buy.

Consider street vendors

As a tourist city, lots of poor people will flow into Hoi An city center to make a living by carrying a basket of fruits to try to sell and make a living or sometimes they want you to take pictures with you for memories. The fact is that they want you to buy something for them and sometimes they are a bit annoying if you don’t buy for them. So, our advice is to ask questions first whether you want to take pictures with them or what you are going to do. If you do not really want, just say NO and go ahead to stop some risen issues that you might have.
