TRA QUE VEGETABLE VILLAGE HISTORY
Originally known as Nhu Que, the vegetable village of Tra Que in Hoi An was uncovered more than 400 years ago. By the legend, a King of the Nguyen Dynasty supposedly ate a local vegetable while passing through the village at the beginning of the 18th century. He felt cinnamon aroma of this veggie but he also realized a cool aroma of camellia so he changed the name of the plant from Nhu Que to Tra Que.
TRA QUE VEGETABLE VILLAGE INTRODUCTION
Tra Que vegetable village is around 3 kilometers to the northwest of Hoi An city. This traditional village has been here for almost 300 years and it covers the land of 40 acres.
Here, there are more than 20 different varieties of leafy vegetables and spices intercropped by local residents. On the fertile land between Tra Que lagoon and De Vong river, this region produces green vegetable items that are well-known across the country. The locals use enhanced methods in addition to seaweed harvested from the Co Co River to fertilize the crops, ensuring that the veggies in Tra Que village are constantly in season and have an exceptional flavor that is unmatched anyplace else. TAM HUU
This is unique to Hoi An’s Tra Que Vegetable Village. Shrimp, pork, basil, and green onions are rolled up in the meal is known as “Tam Huu” or “three friends”. You dip it in a small amount of sweet and sour fish sauce with garlic and chili when eating.
HOW TO GET TRA QUE VEGETABLE VILLAGE FROM HOI AN?
Any location around Hoi An is not far from the vegetable village of Tra Que. It is frequently walkable for those staying close to the Old Town or An Bang Beach. From Hoi An center, if you follow Hai Ba Trung street then Tra Que Vegetable Village will be on your right on the way to the beach.
